At the Seventh Annual Meeting to be held in November 2020, the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW would like to propose to review the implementation challenges that National Authorities and the chemical industry face when collaborating.
States Parties for whom participation in this meeting would be beneficial to their ongoing efforts to enhance implementation of the Convention, are invited to nominate participants. States Parties that are willing to share best practices in the same area will be given a priority to participate in the meeting. States Parties are strongly encouraged to nominate candidates who have not participated in this meeting in the past.
Themes of the discussions of the Annual Meeting has focused on specific requirements and implementation processes of Article VI of the Convention in recent years. This year, the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW would like to propose a broader review of the implementation challenges, rather than highlighting a specific Article, and focus on areas where the collaboration of the National Authorities and the chemical industry is crucial. Examples of focus areas include chemical security and the national implementing legislation and regulations.
The main objectives of the Annual Meeting are to:
- Foster collaboration and cooperation between National Authorities and the chemical industry and to facilitate the exchange of experience and good practices
- Raise awareness of the specific requirements of the relevant provisions of the Convention
- Review current practices and challenges in selected issues for which collaboration between the chemical industry and National Authorities is crucial
- Further enhance the general capacity both of National Authorities and chemical industry for improving the quality and timeliness of the fulfilment of obligations.
