Parliamentarians from Viet Nam visit the OPCW

A delegation of Parliamentarians from the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam led by the Vice-President of the National Assembly, H.E. Uong Chu Luu, visited the OPCW on 2 July 2014 and met with the Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Director-General briefed the delegation on the work of the OPCW at present in implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention, including progress in the ongoing mission to eliminate Syria’s chemical weapons programme. He reviewed the OPCW’s activities in the area of international cooperation under Article XI of the CWC, stressed the urgent need to achieve universality of the Convention and encouraged Vietnam to contribute to this effect. The Director-General commended Viet Nam for its commitment to global efforts to ban chemical weapons and for its support to the work of the OPCW.  

Mr. Uong Chu Luu congratulated the OPCW for tremendous achievements since the creation of the Organisation and receiving the 2013 Nobel Prize of Peace. He also confimed Viet Nam’s determination to cooperate with the OPCW in the implementation of the Convention for global peace and security.
