Day of Remembrance of All Victims of Chemical Warfare Commemoration Day Established by the OPCW

On 11 November 2005, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) convened the Tenth Session of the Conference of the State Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention from 7 to 11 November 2005 in The Hague.

The Conference endorsed a proposal for the establishment of a Day of Remembrance of all victims of chemical warfare, which would be observed each year on 29 April, the anniversary of Entry into Force of the Convention. In addition, the Conference endorsed the dedication in The Hague of a permanent memorial to these victims. The Conference tasked Director-General Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter with the necessary planning, leading to the establishment of the memorial.
