Visiting the OPCW

Visitors to the OPCW during Open Day.

At its headquarters in The Hague, the OPCW regularly provides briefings to visiting groups on its mission and work to implement the Chemical Weapons Convention. In 2016, OPCW staff members have voluntarily delivered 59 presentations to about 1,300 visitors who are security professionals, educators and students, lawyers and judges, as well as government and military officials from across the globe.

Briefings can be tailored to specific areas of interest, and subject to availability, can also be provided in one of the official languages of the Organisation (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Spanish and Russian).

In addition to receiving a briefing, visiting groups have the opportunity to visit the OPCW’s conference room; and view the Nobel Peace Prize medal, which was awarded to the OPCW in 2013 for its extensive efforts to eliminate chemical weapons

To arrange a group visit to the OPCW, please follow these steps:

  • Fill out the online request form
  • Once your request is confirmed, you will be asked to provide a list of participants in alphabetic order which contains names and identification/passport numbers, no later than four working days before the visit.
  • On the day of visit, all participants must arrive ten minutes in advance to allow time for security clearance and present valid photo identification (passport, driver’s license or national identity card).

If you have any queries please email Ms Jianwei Wang, Senior Research Clerk, Political Affairs and Protocol Branch, via jianwei.wang@opcw.org.

In 2017, we will continue to accommodate the public’s demand for visit, but due to a series of upcoming events, such as celebration for the 20th Anniversary of the OPCW, it is anticipated to be difficult to welcome visitors during April.
