The Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, met today with the State Secretary for Foreign Policy of the Kingdom of Denmark, H.E. Ms Lone Dencker Wisborg, at OPCW Headquarters in The Hague.

The Director-General expressed his gratitude for Denmark’s active involvement in the complex efforts to remove the Syrian Arab Republic’s declared chemical weapons. He informed her about his recent consultations with the Syrian authorities to resolve outstanding issues regarding Syria’s declaration about its chemical weapons programme. Ambassador Üzümcü also briefed the State Secretary on current activities and future priorities of the Organisation, including those aimed at countering the use of chemical weapons by non-state actors.

“Denmark’s unwavering commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and its readiness to materially contribute to the work of the OPCW is highly appreciated in our collective efforts to combat today’s chemical weapons threats,” said the Director-General.

The State Secretary for Foreign Policy, Ms Dencker Wisborg remarked, “Denmark has a solid track record in supporting the OPCW in achieving its goal of a world free of chemical weapons. Based on our experience from the removal of Syria’s chemical weapons in 2013-14, we continue to stand ready to contribute with concrete action to prevent future use of chemical weapons by anyone, anywhere.”
