Tunisian Foreign Affairs Minister Visits the OPCW

The Tunisian Foreign Affairs Minister, H.E. Mr. Mongi Hamdi, visited the OPCW Technical Secretariat in The Hague on Wednesday, 10 September 2014 and met with the Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Director-General updated the Foreign Affairs Minister on progress in the mission to eliminate the Syrian Arab Republic’s chemical weapons programme, and on the findings of a report issued yesterday by the OPCW Fact Finding Mission on the use of chlorine in Syria. The Director-General also discussed the OPCW’s activities in the area of assistance and protection, and international cooperation. He commended Tunisia for its continuing commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention and support for the work of the OPCW.

The Foreign Affairs Minister congratulated the OPCW for its achievements in Syria, chemical disarmament in general and for its receipt of the 2013 Nobel Peace Prize. He assured the Director-General of Tunisia’s continued commitment and support for the Organisation.
