A delegation of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) visited the OPCW on 5 June and met with the Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü.

The delegation composed two PGA Executive Committee members, Mr Felipe Michelini MP from Uruguay and Senator Jim Walsh from Ireland, together with PGA Secretary-General Dr David Donat Cattin and staff from the PGA office in The Hague. The PGA is a non-profit, non-partisan international network of 1,100 legislators in 140 elected parliaments around the world who promote peace, democracy, the rule of law, human rights, gender equality and population issues.

The visitors provided an overview of the PGA’s main activities and its longstanding support for the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), and the Director-General briefed the delegation on relevant programmes of the OPCW. Both sides agreed to maintain contact and to further explore the potential for collaboration, particularly with respect to achieving the goals of universality and full national implementation of the CWC.
