Permanent Secretary of Foreign Ministry of Cyprus Visits the OPCW

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, Mr Alexandros Zenon, visited the OPCW today and met with Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Director-General and Permanent Secretary discussed recent developments with the OPCW-UN Joint Mission in Syria and the schedule for removing and destroying Syrian chemicals.  As host country for the office of the Special Coordinator, Cyprus has played an active role in the Joint Mission from the outset, for which the Director-General expressed his appreciation.

Mr Zenon commended the OPCW for the work it has been carrying out over the years and for its crucial contribution to destroying Syria’s chemical arsenal. He praised the OPCW inspectors who are working in Syria at their personal risk, and reaffirmed the full commitment of Cyprus to the mission.
