Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia Visits the OPCW

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, H.E. Mr Miroslav Lajčák, visited the OPCW Technical Secretariat on 29 August 2013 where he met with the Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, and senior OPCW staff.

The Director-General briefed the Deputy Prime Minister on recent developments related to the operations of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the OPCW, including the participation of OPCW inspectors in the UN investigation in Syria. He also provided an update on the status of destruction of declared chemical weapon stockpiles, on the ongoing effort to achieve universality of the Convention, and on the OPCW’s national capacity building activities.

The Director-General commended Slovakia for its commitment to the goals of the Convention and for its support to the OPCW, and the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed his country’s continuing commitment and support.
