Foreign Minister of Brazil Visits the OPCW

The Minister of External Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Mr Antonio de Aguiar Patriota and OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Minister of External Relations of the Federative Republic of Brazil, H.E. Mr Antonio de Aguiar Patriota, visited the Technical Secretariat in The Hague today for a meeting with the OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, accompanied by senior staff. 

The Director-General updated the Foreign Minister on the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the destruction of global chemical stockpiles, the need to achieve universality of the Convention, and the OPCW’s capacity building activities. He also briefed him on the outcomes of the Third Review Conference in April and their impact on the OPCW’s future work. 

The Director-General commended Brazil for its commitment to the goals of the Convention and for its support to the work of the OPCW.  Mr Aguiar Patriota affirmed his country’s continuing commitment and support to the Convention and the OPCW.
