Foreign Minister of Georgia Visits the OPCW

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, H.E. Ms Maia Panjikidze, and OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, H.E. Ms Maia Panjikidze, visited the OPCW today and met with the OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, and senior staff.

The Director-General updated the Foreign Minister on the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the destruction of global chemical arsenals and the OPCW’s efforts to achieve CWC universality. He also briefed her on preparations for the forthcoming Third Review Conference, to be held from 8-19 April 2013 at the World Forum Conference Center in The Hague, and the main issues that will be addressed.

The Director-General commended Georgia for its commitment to the goals of the Convention and for its support to the work of the OPCW. The Foreign Minister affirmed her country’s continuing commitment to the Convention and support for the work of the OPCW, and she assured the Director-General of Georgia’s active participation in future OPCW activities.
