Director-General Receives Report on Article XI Workshop

Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü (r.) was presented with the final report on 28 January 2011 by Ambassador Maarten Lak (l.) of the Netherlands, who co-chaired the workshop with Ambassador Abuelgasim Abdelwahld Sheikh Idris of Sudan.

 

The workshop was held on 24 and 25 November 2010 at the OPCW headquarters in The Hague to explore concrete measures that can be taken to fully implement Article XI of the Chemical Weapons Convention dealing with economic and technological development. The workshop brought representatives of States Parties together with chemical industry associations, NGOs, and regional and international organizations.

In presenting the final report, Ambassador Lak said the workshop had benefited from the active engagement of all the participants and generated many new ideas for full implementation of Article XI that can be taken forward by the States Parties. The Director-General thanked Ambassador Lak and Ambassador Idris for their work as co-chairs of the workshop and complimented them for their guidance.

The report has been made available to States Parties for their consideration.
