Vice Foreign Minister of Peru Visits the OPCW

H.E. Mr Gonzalo Gutiérrez, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, paid an official visit to the OPCW in The Hague on 20 January 2009.

The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, briefed Vice Minister Gutiérrez on the status of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the progress being made towards the elimination of the global chemical weapons stockpile and the efforts undertaken by the OPCW in other areas of its mandate. He also discussed with the Vice Minister future activities in Peru relating to implementation of the CWC.

The Vice Foreign Minister, Mr Gutiérrez, expressed his country’s firm commitment to the goals of the CWC and assured the Director-General of Peru’s continuing support for the work of the OPCW. He also thanked the Director-General for the OPCW’s support to Peru under Article X of the Convention in strengthening its assistance and protection capacity against chemical weapons.

Director-General Pfirter commended Peru for its implementation of the Convention and its close cooperation with the OPCW.
