OPCW Director-General Visits Finland

The Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, paid an official visit to the Republic of Finland on 4 and 5 September 2007.

During this visit, Director-General Pfirter met Mrs Teija Tiilikainen, Political Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs; Mr Markus Lyra, Under-Secretary of State, Political Affairs; and Mrs Pilvi-Sisko Vierros-Villeneuve, Director-General of the Political Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

H.E. Mrs Tiilikainen evinced keen interest in the progress made by the OPCW during the first decade of its existence and reaffirmed the continuation of her country’s historic support for the objectives of the CWC. Director-General Pfirter commended the Government of Finland for its exemplary cooperation and strong support for the Convention’s implementation and for the work of the OPCW.

During the meetings with other senior officials, matters relating to chemical disarmament and non-proliferation, universality of the CWC, and its effective national implementation by States Parties were discussed.
