OPCW Director-General Met Senior Representative of the European Chemicals Agency in Finland

12 September 2007

The Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, during his official visit to Finland on 4 and 5 September 2007, met with senior representatives of the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA).

The Agency, which has been established recently with Helsinki as its seat, has the important mandate to ensure the safe use of chemicals through the means of registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction processes for chemicals along uniform standards throughout the European Union.

The meeting was important as it was the first opportunity for an exchange of information and views on the respective areas of work of the OPCW and ECHA and the possibilities of cooperation in areas that may be of relevance to both.
