Palau Congratulates the OPCW on its Tenth Anniversary

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the founding of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the Minister of State of the Republic of the Palau, H.E. Mr Temmy L. Shmull, sent a congratulatory message to the OPCW and its Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter.

Minister Shmull in his message stated “The Chemical Weapons Convention has broken new ground in multilateral disarmament. It is a matter of great satisfaction that the membership of the OPCW has increased to 182 which will further enhance the universal membership of this august body. Palau deeply appreciates your commitment and resolve in this regard.

Minister Shmull message also emphasized that “the CWC is a vital and indispensable multilateral tool ensuring the permanent abolition and total eradication of the oldest and, tragically, the most frequently wielded weapons of mass destruction-Chemical Weapons. And in this effort, the World is now a safer place due to the sincere commitments of the States Parties as well as the dedication shown by your organization.”

Reiterating Palau’s firm commitment to the OPCW Minister Shmull in his message said “My Government is pleased to advise that given Palau’s nuclear free constitution and its strong commitment to eradicating chemical, nuclear and biological and toxin weapons, we at the National Authority are committed to continue to work closely with OPCW and all States Parties in pursuing and promoting the intent and objectives of the Convention…”
