Job Performance at OPCW

Staff Recognition Award 2015

The OPCW places high emphasis on performance and encourages each staff member's commitment to success. At OPCW, success in achieving our mission is underpinned by practicing our core values and finding ways every day to demonstrate the competencies necessary for the realisation of our objectives.

Our core values and competencies make up a performance standard against which each staff member, through ongoing feedback and regular performance appraisals, is evaluated. They also form a platform by which each staff member can cultivate and develop valuable professional skills. At regular intervals, each staff member has the opportunity to put together a customised work plan in cooperation with their manager.

Competencies

Competencies are signatures of success. They are the attributes and skills that are applied in realising objectives. They are what's needed to turn ideas and goals into realities. They speak of how we do what we do. They are instruments for measuring achievement.

Everyone at OPCW has the regular opportunity to work with their manager in putting together a customised set of competencies, suited to their role, that not only help to put the objectives of their job into focus, but also identify means for their achievement. Staff members take their competencies to the next level when they use them as a platform for personal and professional development. When the time arrives for taking stock of achievements, competencies serve as a framework against which performance is appraised.

Code of Conduct

The OPCW serves the international community. In addition to job performance, high standards of personal and professional conduct are expected of staff members. Read more about what is expected of an international civil servant in the OPCW Code of Conduct [PDF 74.64 kb].
