Article X Programmes – Opportunities for the OPCW Member States

OPCW, in collaboration with Mr Maciej Karasinski, facilitator for consultations on assistance and protection against chemical weapons under Article X of the CWC, organised “Article X Programmes – Opportunities for the OPCW Member States”, a side-event to the upcoming Sixty-Ninth Executive Council meeting.

The opening address was delivered by OPCW Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü, Thereafter, the Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Council, Dr Miguel Calahorrano Camino of Ecuador, made a statement on the importance of Article X.

The meeting focused on the capacity-building activities that are undertaken under Article X and highlighted the benefits from the active engagement of the OPCW Member States as well as the importance of contributions by donors and the cooperation between donors, recipients and the Technical Secretariat.

Presentations by OPCW, China, Mexico, The Central America Integrated System (SICA) and the European Union (EU-Cyprus), provided the delegations the views from different angles (Secretariat/ donor /recipient /regional) involved in capacity building projects. After the presentations the floor was open to the delegates to make remarks, provide views or inform about their own involvement. Thirty-one delegations attended this meeting.
