OPCW Hosts Global Workshop on Article XI of the CWC

OPCW staff and participants at a workshop on Article XI of the Chemical Weapons Convention, which was held at its headquarters in The Hague from 11 to 13 June 2014.

The OPCW held a workshop on Article XI of the Chemical Weapons Convention its headquarters in The Hague from 11 to 13 June 2014, which was attended by representatives from 22 States Parties representing all OPCW regions.*

The Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzumcü, and Deputy Director-General, Mrs Grace Asirwatham, both addressed the event and noted the contribution the workshop would make to the full implementation of Article XI in the coming years.

The workshop was organised in accordance with a decision by the Conference of States Parties at its 16th Session to explore ideas that could assist the OPCW in developing concrete measures to fully implement Article XI. The participants had all attended previous regional workshops on Article XI that were held in China and Uruguay in 2012, and in Hungary and Kenya in 2013. They discussed and formalized the final recommendations for regional and global implementation of Article XI, which will be used by the OPCW’s Policy Making Organs to guide future planning.
