Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Visits the OPCW

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Mr Edgars Rinkēvičs visited the OPCW today, where he met with the Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, and other senior OPCW officials.

The Director-General and Minister Rinkēvičs discussed a number of issues related to the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), as well as the OPCW’s mission to eliminate the Syrian chemical weapons programme and efforts towards obtaining universality of the CWC. The Director-General expressed appreciation for Latvia’s valuable contribution to the exhibition “Chemical Weapons in World War I,” which was on display at OPCW Headquarters from 17 March – 16 April 2015.

Minister Rinkēvičs congratulated the OPCW for its achievements in Syria and reiterated Latvia’s full support for the OPCW’s work in ensuring the effective implementation of the Convention.
