Members of the Swedish Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs Visit the OPCW

A delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Swedish Parliament, headed by Mr Kenneth G. Forslund, Chairman of the Committee, visited the OPCW on 13 April 2015 for a meeting with the Director-General, Ambassador Ahmet Üzümcü, and senior OPCW officials.

During the meeting, the Director-General briefed the delegation on the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including on progress made in the destruction of chemical weapons stockpiles. He also provided an update on the mission to eliminate Syria’s chemical weapons programme and expressed appreciation to the Government of Sweden for its generous contribution to the Syria Trust Fund.

Mr Forslund and other delegation members noted with appreciation the progress made in the Syria mission and underscored Sweden’s commitment to ensuring the mission’s successful completion. They additionally noted the importance of global efforts to address the threat posed by non-state actors acquiring and using chemical weapons.
