Iraq’s Minister of Science and Technology Visits the OPCW

The Minister of Science and Technology of Iraq, H.E. Abdul Karim Ali Yasin Al-Samarra, accompanied by other senior Iraqi officials visited the OPCW where he met with OPCW Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Director-General reviewed for the Minister the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the destruction of global chemical arsenals and the OPCW’s efforts to achieve CWC universality. The Minister and the Director-General also discussed plans for the destruction of remnants of chemical weapons in Iraq and the support of OPCW and other States Parties for this process.

Minister Al-Samarra affirmed Iraq’s commitment to the CWC and support for the OPCW and offered his best wishes to the Organisation in its continuing implementation of the Convention. The Director-General commended Iraq for its commitment and support.
