Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Visits the OPCW

The Deputy Foreign Minister for International Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, H.E. Mohammad Mehdi Akhoundzadeh, visited the OPCW last week and met with OPCW Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Director-General provided a briefing for the Deputy Minister on the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the destruction of global chemical arsenals and the OPCW’s efforts to achieve CWC universality. He also expressed appreciation to the Deputy Minister for Iran’s dedication of a monument to victims of chemical weapons that was unveiled last week in the garden of the Technical Secretariat.

The Deputy Minister affirmed Iran’s commitment to the Convention and support for the work of the OPCW. The Director-General commended Iran for its continuing commitment and support.
