Flag-hoisting Marks Beginning of Week-long Series of Events to Commemorate the OPCW’s 15th Anniversary

31 August 2012

At noon today, Friday 31 August 2012, the Mayor of The Hague, Jozias van Aartsen, and OPCW Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü will preside over the hoisting of special flags on the Buitenhof bridge in the city centre to commemorate the OPCW’s 15th anniversary.

The flag-hoisting kicks off a series of events to be held in locations around the city through the week of 3-7 September to mark the anniversary, organised by the OPCW and partner organizations.

On Monday 3 September there will be a high-level commemorative event in the OPCW’s Ieper Room featuring a line-up of eminent figures in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation, which will be webcast live on the OPCW Internet website. This will be followed by “The Hague Week on Disarmament and Non-proliferation” – the first of its kind in the city – featuring events exploring a variety of contemporary issues in the field for diverse audiences, with leading international officials and experts.

Complete details of the 15th Anniversary commemorative event, The Hague Week on Disarmament and Non-proliferation, and schedule of live interactive webcasts can be viewed on the OPCW website at www.opcw.org.
