Deputy Prime Minister of Viet Nam Visits the OPCW

H.E. Mr Pham Gia Khiem, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, paid an official visit to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague on 19 September 2008.

The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, briefed Deputy Prime Minister Khiem on the status of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the progress being made towards the elimination of the global chemical weapons stockpile and the efforts undertaken by the OPCW in other areas of its mandate. The Director-General underlined the importance of universal adherence to the Convention as well as its effective national implementation. These represented areas to which Member States attached great importance.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Khiem expressed Viet Nam’s firm commitment to the goals of the CWC and assured the Director-General of Viet Nam’s continuing support for the work of the OPCW.

Director-General Pfirter commended Viet Nam for its implementation of the Convention and its close cooperation with the OPCW.
