Briefing for Non-Residential Permanent Representatives to the OPCW

The Technical Secretariat of the OPCW organised a briefing for non-residential Permanent Representatives to the OPCW on Monday 17 November in Brussels. More than 30 representatives based in Brussels and London attended the briefing.

On behalf of the OPCW Director-General, the Deputy Director-General Ambassador Grace Asirwatham briefed the representatives on overall activities  [PDF – 44 KB] of the OPCW during the year 2014 and the preparations for the forthcoming Conference of the States Parties. The Chairperson of the Executive Council, H.E. Alvaro Moerzinger, delivered an update on the activities of the Executive Council with a focus on Syria-related activities. The Director of the International Cooperation and Assistance (ICA) Division, Mr. Mark Albon, briefed them on the progress made under the programme [PDF – 162 MB] of international cooperation assistance to achieve the objectives of the relevant articles of the Chemical Weapons Convention. 

Following the briefings the participants engaged themselves in an interactive session expressing views on the progress being made by the OPCW and sought more information on the specific activities of the Organisation.
