Office of Internal Oversight (OIO)

The Mission of the Office of Internal Oversight (OIO) is to promote effective programme management by identifying, reporting on and proposing remedies for problems of waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement within the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).  

Core functions of OIO:

To add value to the Organisation by providing independent and objective assurance and advice on the adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls, risk management and governance processes in the Organisation.

Internship assignments:

The OIO is looking for interns to work in the area of Internal Audit and Evaluation, including but not limited to: 

  • Preparation of documents of the areas to be audited/evaluated;
  • Analytical review of documents and information using tools such as Excel and other IT tools;
  • Drafting of/ input given to audit documentation (plans, reports, checklists);
  • Preparation for interviews and recording discussions;
  • Participation in various meetings/ interviews/ presentations;
  • Conducting risk assessment at engagement level, providing support in fieldwork and report writing.
  • Interns should get the opportunity to extend and enrich their knowledge on auditing/ evaluations by:
  • Participating in meetings;
  • Drafting minutes;
  • Analysing information and preparing internal working documentation (checklists, process/document analyses, memos);
  • Learning audit techniques and processes by working with the auditors in the audit team.

Internship requirements:


Applicants should have a completed or in progress, a general background in Arts at the Bachelors or Masters level.

Language proficiency

  • Fluency in English is essential;
  • A good working knowledge of one or more of the OPCW official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.

Internship period:


The internship is offered on a full time basis, for a minimum of three (3) months and normally up to a maximum of six (6) months.

Working hours

The internship working hours shall not exceed forty (40) hours per week.
