Capacity Building and Contingency Planning Cell (CBCP)

In the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the Secretariat has assigned a small cadre of inspectors to a newly created Capacity Building and Contingency Planning Cell (CBCP) with the goal of strengthening the Secretariats preparedness for contingency operations, as well as capacity building programmes for States Parties (training).

Core functions of CBCP:

  • Supporting the capacity building programmes and delivering external trainings as part of the Secretariat’s International cooperation and assistance activities;
  • Planning, coordinating and providing the training programme for inspectors and support personnel;
  • Planning in cooperation and in conjunction with all relevant Divisions and Offices of the Secretariat for contingency operations;
  • Preparing, planning and exercising with other relevant Divisions and Offices of the Secretariat for contingency operations;
  • Deploying as part of advanced teams for contingency operations.

Internship assignments:

  • Provide general administrative assistance to the CBCP with regards to the implementation of their Inspectorate Training Programme;
  • Liaise with Training providers and serve as a focal point for other Branches/Divisions within OPCW;
  • Fill out appropriate documentation and check information on behalf of the Head and CBCP Cell;
  • Assist in Procession Post-Mission documents related to CBCP Cell, files, archiving coordination and document processing;
  • Check invoices for completeness and alignment with pre-established Technical Agreements;
  • Perform other related duties, as required;
  • Planning events and meetings, ensuring smooth correspondence between designated parties; 
  • Administrative Assistant overall tasks;
  • At an advanced progression of the internship, take part in scenario planning stages.

Internship requirements:


Applicants should have a completed or in progress, an academic background preferably in at least one of the following fields:

  • Business Administration;
  • Economics;
  • Finance;
  • International Relations;
  • Similar related field.


  • Computer Proficiency of both Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel and preferably PowerPoint;
  • Working in a Multicultural Team Progressively responsible administrative experience in an organisation / team setting;
  • Experience in an international environment is highly desirable;
  • Ability to draft clear, accurate and succinct administrative correspondence including minutes, memoranda, letters, instructions, etc. is essential;
  • Excellent analytical skills and the ability to create and maintain spreadsheets in Excel are essential.

Language proficiency

  • Fluency in English is essential;
  • A good working knowledge of one or more of the OPCW official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.

Internship period:

The internship is offered on a full time basis, for a minimum of three (3) months and normally up to a maximum of six (6) months.

Working hours

The internship working hours shall not exceed forty (40) hours per week.
