OPCW Director-General meets Israeli Delegation; Universality of the Chemical Weapons Convention Discussed

On 18 April 2007, an official delegation of the State of Israel led by the Deputy Director-General for Strategic Affairs of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Ms Miriam Ziv, visited the headquarters of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW). The delegation was received by OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter.

In their meeting, Director-General Pfirter underscored the importance of the CWC’s universality to ensure that an effective, global ban on chemical weapons can reach its fullest potential to permanently prevent the use or manufacture of these weapons. Deputy Director-General Ziv elaborated her Government’s position on the Chemical Weapons Convention in light of the regional security situation.

In her discussion with Director-General Pfirter, Deputy Director-General Ziv indicated her Government’s readiness to maintain regular contact with the OPCW.
