OPCW Director-General Visits the Holy See

Archbishop Mamberti reaffirmed the Holy See’s strong commitment to the goals of the Convention and the work of the OPCW.

The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, paid a bilateral visit to the Holy See on 3 November 2009, where he met with H.E. Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States.

During their meeting, Director-General Pfirter provided Archbishop Mamberti with an overview of the status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention. He expressed appreciation for the Holy See’s firm support of and active interest in the OPCW, including through its participation in the Conference of the States Parties.

Archbishop Mamberti reaffirmed the Holy See’s strong commitment to the goals of the Convention and the work of the OPCW. He expressed his appreciation for the progress made in the achievement of the core objectives of the treaty, as well as his earnest hope that the Organisation would be able to achieve the universality of the Convention and its full implementation by the States Parties.
