The Third Advanced Regional Assistance-and-Protection Course on Chemical Emergency Response for States Parties in Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) was held from 19 to 24 May 2014 in Buenos Aires.  The course was co-organised by the Government of Argentina and the OPCW, with 35 specialists from 19 States Parties in the region participating.*

The course related to an offer made by Argentine under Article X of the Chemical Weapons Convention and was the second stage of an Assistance-and- Protection Pilot Project for the GRULAC region in 2014. Advanced instruction was provided on the proper use of individual and protective equipment, the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), and on rescue and decontamination techniques. The course also included training in emergency planning during incidents involving chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial chemicals.  The training cycle will be closed in August 2014 with an exercise in Brazil.
