The Republic of Serbia Hosts Clinical Placement Program with the OPCW
From 12 to 23 November 2007, the Defense Ministry of the Republic of Serbia hosted a clinical placement programme for the Inspectorate medical staff of the Technical Secretariat of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).
The two-week clinical placement programme provided the OPCW Inspectorate’s medical staff with an advanced training in dealing with the effects of toxic chemicals that can be used as chemical weapons, such as organophosphates. The experience gained in the programme will assist the OPCW in preparing its Inspectorate medical staff to deal with medical consequences of exposure to chemical weapons.
The program took place at the Belgrade-based, multidisciplinary Military Medical Academy, where the National Poison Control Centre is located.
The Republic of Serbia reaffirmed its strong commitment and support for the object and purpose of the Chemical Weapons Convention and noted that this clinical placement programme is a tangible example of this support. The Government of Serbia has offered to provide the Technical Secretariat such placements on a regular basis.
