The Federated States of Micronesia adopts the implementing legislation

30 May 2014

During a Sub-regional Workshop for States Parties from Pacific Island States held in Brisbane, on 20-23 May 2014, The Technical Secretariat (TS) was informed by the representative of the Federated States of Micronesia that the Congress enacted the Federated States of Micronesia Chemical Weapons Act, copy of which was delivered to the TS. The enactment of National Implementing legislation is a core requirement of the Convention articulated under Article VII of the Convention. The Technical Secretariat has been working closely with those States Parties who have yet to fulfil this important obligation and wishes to commend the Federated States of Micronesia for its positive engagement with the Secretariat and its achievement in adopting a comprehensive piece of legislation that ensures Micronesia’s full compliance with the Chemical Weapons Convention.
