As part of the Technical Secretariat’s annual programme, a briefing session was conducted on 25 January 2012 for OPCW Permanent Representations that are based in Brussels, Belgium.

The Director-General and Deputy Director-General, supported by senior officers from the Legal Affairs Office and the divisions of International Cooperation and External Relations, briefed Permanent Representatives and delegates on the main issues relating to the future priorities of the OPCW.

This included details on the legal framework required for national implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, and on the international assistance provided by the Secretariat to help States Parties with capacity building to improve implementation. A reception followed the briefing which provided an opportunity for further exchanges.

States Parties showed great interest in the OPCW’s international cooperation activities and requested that such briefings continue to be conducted for the benefit of non-resident Permanent Representatives to the OPCW.
