H.E. Mr Juan Antonio Martabit Scaff (Chile)
H.E. Mr Juan Antonio Martabit Scaff, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Chile to the OPCW, presented his credentials to the Director-General on 23 May 2008. He is concurrently accredited as his country's Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Ambassador Scaff is a career diplomat who entered the diplomatic service as a member of the Chilean Delegation to the General Assembly of the United Nations, New York in 1970. Prior to his current appointment Ambassador Scaff was the Permanent Representative of Chile to the Office of the United Nations and other International Organisations in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ambassador Scaff has served with the rank of an Ambassador in the following countries: concurrently in Norway and Iceland, 1993; concurrently in Brazil and Suriname, 1998 and 1999; and in Singapore, 2000 until 2003.
Ambassador Scaff held the position of Consul General and Minister Counsellor in the Chilean Missions in the following countries: United Kingdom, 1983 and 1984; Peru, 1987 to 1990; and Bolivia, 1990 to 1993.
Ambassador Scaff was the Director of the Americas Department, Ministry of Foreign Affaires of Chile, in 1994. He also represented Chile as a member and as the Head of the Chilean delegations to different international meetings including of the OAS, ECOSOC, UNCTAD, ELAC, MERCOSUR and Grupo de Rio.
Ambassador Scaff has a degree in Law from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and from the Institut des Hautes Études International (IHEI), Université de Paris.
