H.E. Mr Zeidan Al-Saghir, Permanent Representative of the Lebanese Republic to the OPCW

H.E. Mr Zeidan Al-Saghir, Permanent Representative of the Lebanese Republic to the OPCW, presented his credentials to the Director-General on 26 February 2009. He is concurrently accredited as his country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

Ambassador Al-Saghir is a career diplomat with a background in law and legal research. Prior to his present appointment he was Director of the Centre for Legal Studies, Research and Documentation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants in Beirut.

As a member of the diplomatic corps of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, Ambassador Al-Saghir has served in the following positions: Ambassador of Lebanon to China (1999-2003) and Cuba (1994-1999): Head of the Consular Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants (1992-1994): Consul General of Lebanon in Istanbul, Turkey; Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants (1983-1985); Secretary in the Embassy of Lebanon to Algeria (1978-1983) and to Kuwait (1974-1978) and Attaché in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants (1973-1974) and Embassy of Lebanon to the Republic of Sudan (1973).

Ambassador Al-Saghir graduated in Law from the Faculty of Law and Political Studies at the Lebanese University of Beirut and was director of the Centre for Legal Studies, Research and Documentation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants. He is the author of number of studies and researches in International Law and speaks French, English and Spanish.
