H.E. Mr. Nikola Dimitrov (The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia)
H.E. Mr. Nikola Dimitrov, the Permanent Representative of the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to the OPCW, presented his credentials to the Director-General on 19 November, 2009. He is concurrently accredited as his country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Mr. Dimitrov obtained a First Degree in Law in 1996 at the Faculty of Law, St Cyril and Methodius University in the Republic of Macedonia. He completed a Master of Law Degree (LLM) at the King’s College, University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom in 1998. He is currently undertaking a Ph.D. at the Institute for Defence and Peace Studies, St Cyril and Methodius University (Republic of Macedonia).
Mr. Dimitrov’s most recent appointments include:
- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Macedonia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands (from 2009);
- Co-Agent of the Republic of Macedonia before the International Court of Justice (from 2008);
- Special Envoy of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia for European and Euro-Atlantic integration in Brussels (2007-2008);
- National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia (2007 - 2008);
- Chairman of the National Security Strategy Working Group (2007);
- National Coordinator of the Republic of Macedonia for NATO Integration (2006 - 2009);
- Special Envoy of the Republic of Macedonia in the talks between the Republic of Macedonia and the Hellenic Republic to overcome the difference over the name under the UN auspices (2003 - 2008);
- Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Macedonia to the United States of America (2001 - 2006);
- National Security Adviser to the President of the Republic of Macedonia (2000 - 2001);
- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Macedonia (2000).
Mr. Dimitrov is the author of The Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: Historical Background and Theoretical Implications (1998). In 1998 and 2007, Mr. Dimitrov had a regular weekly column in Dnevnik (Skopje).
