H.E. Mr Leon Marc (Slovenia)
H.E. Mr Leon Marc, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Slovenia to the OPCW, presented his credentials to the Director-General on 2 April 2009. He is concurrently accredited as his country’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Ambassador Marc joined the Foreign Service in 1993 as a Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Prior to this current appointment he served in a number of positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including: Minister Plenipotentiary, Head of South-East Europe Division, Chair of the Council Working Group during the EU Presidency (2006–2009); First Secretary in the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Dublin (2002-2006); First Secretary on the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada desk (2000–2002); Head of Minister’s Private Office (2000) and Private Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs (1993–1994).
Ambassador Marc’s previous experience also includes: International Secretary of a major parliamentary party (1995–2000); Slovenia contributor for Oxford Analytica, (1999–2000); Slovenia correspondent of a weekly newspaper for the Slovene community in Italy (1990–1992), and assistant editor of a Slovenian academic journal. He published 53 Cobiss.si bibliographical units.
Ambassador Marc holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Ljubljana and Master of Science in Public Policy from the University of London. Besides Slovenian he speaks English, Italian, Spanish and Serbian-Croatian-Bosnian.
