H.E Mr. José Artur Denot Medeiros Special Representative for Disarmament and Non-Profileration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil Visits the OPCW

On 26 September 2007 H.E Mr José Artur Denot Medeiros, Special Representative for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil visited the headquarters of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague.

The OPCW Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter, welcomed Ambassador Medeiros and discussed with him the present status of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) by the 182 OPCW Member States. Director-General Pfirter provided information on the progress made towards the elimination of chemical weapons stockpiles by Possessor States, as well as the implementation of the non-proliferation objectives of the CWC.

Ambassador Medeiros reiterated Brazil’s full and unwavering commitment to a total ban on chemical weapons and expressed Brazil’s strong support for the OPCW and its work in implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention fully and effectively.

In their discussions, Ambassador Medeiros highlighted Brazil’s continued cooperation with the OPCW and looked forward to a further strengthening of the relations between the Organisation and the Government of Brazil to meet the objectives of the Convention.

On behalf of the Organisation, Director-General Pfirter expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Brazil for its active support for the work of the OPCW and welcomed an even closer collaboration between Brazil and the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW for the successful implementation of the Convention.
