Foreign Secretary of Pakistan Visits the OPCW

The Foreign Secretary of Pakistan, H.E. Mr Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, visited the OPCW and met with Director-General Ahmet Üzümcü.

The Director-General updated the Foreign Secretary on recent developments in the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including the Syria mission, and on the OPCW’s continuing efforts to achieve universal adherence to the CWC. He underlined the renewed urgency of universality in the wake of the confirmed use of chemical weapons in Syria and that Pakistan’s support and engagement to that end would be appreciated.

The Foreign Secretary congratulated the OPCW for receiving the 2013 Nobel Prize for Peace, and commended the Organization for its work over the years and critical role in destroying Syria’s chemical arsenal. He assured the Director-General of Pakistan’s full commitment to the Convention and continuing support for the OPCW.
