Foreign Minister of Pakistan Congratulates the OPCW on its Tenth Anniversary

On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the Entry into Force of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the founding of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, H.E. Mr Khurshid M. Kasuri, sent a congratulatory message to the OPCW and its Director-General, Ambassador Rogelio Pfirter.

In his message Foreign Minister Kasuri stated “The Chemical Weapons Convention has broken new grounds in multilateral disarmament. It is a matter of great satisfaction that the membership of the OPCW has increased to 182 which will further enhance the universal membership of this august body. We deeply appreciate your commitment and resolve in this regard. The world is now a safer place due to the sincere commitment of the States Parties as well as the dedication shown by your organization.”

Foreign Minister Kasuri emphasized that “Pakistan is one of the first states which ratified the Convention because it attaches great importance to the promotion of the objectives of the CWC.”

Continuing his message, Foreign Minister Kasuri wrote “Pakistan has diligently fulfilled its national obligations for implementation of the Convention. The establishment of the Pakistan National Authority in 1997 soon after Pakistan’s ratification of the Convention is a manifestation of the seriousness of its commitment.”

Reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to the CWC, Foreign Minister Kasuri stressed “I would like to assure you that Pakistan is fully committed to the purpose and objectives of the Chemical Weapons Convention and is satisfied that OPCW has completed its tenth year with success.”
