Director-General of Latvian Foreign Affairs Ministry Visits OPCW

Ambassador Baiba Braze, Director-General for Security Policy and International Organizations of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Latvia, visited the OPCW today and met with the Deputy Director-General, Mrs Grace Asirwatham.

The Deputy Director-General updated Ambassador Braze on the OPCW’s current priorities in implementing the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including progress and next steps in the mission to destroy Syria’s chemical weapons programme. They also discussed cooperation during Latvia’s forthcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2015, and future priorities of the Organisation on the re-emergence of chemical weapons, national implementation and universality.

The Deputy Director-General commended Latvia for its commitment to the CWC and support for the work of the OPCW, which Ambassador Braze assured will continue.
