Course on Assistance and Protection Against Chemical Weapons Held in Finland
The Government of Finland and the OPCW jointly organised the training course at the Crisis Management Centre in Kuopio from 12 to 16 September 2011. A total of 19 experts from 17 States Parties participated.*
The participants were trained in planning and building a support team for civilian protection and rescue operations in contaminated areas, and in appropriate responses to incidents involving chemical warfare agents, including countermeasures. The course included an introduction to the use of individual protective equipment and to monitoring, detection and decontamination.
The course facilitated an exchange of information and experience regarding implementation of Article X of the Chemical Weapons Convention, and provided a forum for discussing future cooperation among States Parties and what further offers they might make under Article X to the OPCW. The course concluded with a practical emergency response exercise.
