The OPCW and National Authority of Saudi Arabia organised an advanced training course for personnel of CWC National Authorities in Asia from 6 to 8 April 2014 in Riyadh. The course was attended by 51 participants representing 22 States Parties in the region.*

The course provided practical assistance to National Authorities with the preparation and submission of Article VI declarations and with the conduct of Article VI inspections. The programme covered a variety of subjects, including the role of CWC National Authorities, status of implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, the verification and transfers regimes of the Convention, and an introduction to the Electronic Declarations tool for National Authorities (EDNA). The course also included a series of exercises on the preparation of declarations under Article VI of the CWC and on the conduct of Article VI inspections.

H.E. Mr. Fahad Alruwaily, Secretary General of Saudi Arabia’s National Authority, welcomed the participants and emphasised the important contribution made by Saudi Arabia in its efforts to support the implementation of the Convention. He also underlined the need to strengthen regional cooperation in this regard.
