4th Spanish Language Course on Analysis of Chemicals Held in Spain

The fourth Spanish-language course on the Analysis of Chemicals related to the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) in the framework of OPCW proficiency testing was held from 2 to 13 June 2014 at the Laboratorio de Verificación para las Armas Quimicos (LAVEMA) in Madrid.

The course was jointly organised by the OPCW, the National Authority of Spain and LAVEMA for 16 chemistry practitioners from 11 States Parties in the Latin America and Caribbean region* and one participant from Spain. It was opened in the presence of the director of the Instituto Tecnológico La Marañosa, the secretary general of Spain’s National Authority, and the head of LAVEMA.

The course is designed for laboratories that are active, or plan to be active, in the analysis of chemicals related to the Convention or in OPCW proficiency testing. It is one of a series of analytical skills development courses that are specifically designed to enhance the capacity building efforts of the OPCW. Similar courses are held in English, French and Russian.
