of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Mrs Nino Burjanadze, visits the
OPCW |

| On Friday 4 July 2003, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, H.E. Mrs Nino Burjanadze, visited the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) headquarters and met with its Director-General, H.E. Mr Rogelio Pfirter. In their meeting, both the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and the OPCW Director-General emphasized the excellent relationship between Georgia and the Organisation and re-affirmed the need to strengthen the role of the OPCW in achieving full and effective implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention and promoting chemical disarmament, non-proliferation, international cooperation in the peaceful uses of chemistry and the international efforts to stem terrorism. H.E. Mrs Burjanadze reiterated her country’s political commitment in supporting the OPCW in the full implementation of the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention. Georgia signed the Chemical Weapons Convention on 14 January 1993 and became a Member State of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons on 29 April 1997—the date of the Convention’s entry into force. |
