NOTE BY THE EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
PROCUREMENT OF INSPECTION EQUIPMENT FOR EVALUATION AND TRAINING OF INSPECTORS
1. The Secretariat is planning, during the third quarter of 1994, to begin the procurement by competitive tender of items of inspection equipment for evaluation and for use in the training of candidate inspectors for the Technical Secretariat of the OPCW. The specifications for those items of equipment which will be the subject of this first stage of equipment procurement can be found in Attachment 1 of the Third Report of the Expert Group on Inspection Procedures (PC-VIII/B/WP.2).
2. In order to facilitate its procurement processes, the Secretariat needs to identify those companies in Member States that might be interested in bidding for contracts to supply one or more of the types of equipment listed in the document identified above. Member States are therefore requested to assist the Secretariat by identifying companies which may be interested in bidding for contracts, and by forwarding to them copies of the enclosed questionnaire, which should then be returned directly to the Provisional Technical Secretariat. On the basis of these expressions of interest, the Secretariat will compile its initial tender list for each type of equipment from those companies which have, by 1 October 1994, notified the Secretariat that they wish to be included on such a list.
3. Companies wishing to be included in the tender exercise are therefore requested to complete the attached questionnaire form and to forward it to the Secretariat, by the above date.
4. Although the enclosed questionnaire is general in nature, it does solicit information which could be viewed as commercially sensitive. All responses to the questionnaire will be classified as confidential, and treated accordingly. Only the names and addresses of interested companies will be made available to Member States.
5. The information should be forwarded, either by post or fax, and addressed to:
