REPORT ON CONSULTATIONS ON OPCW MEDIA POLICY

1. In accordance with a decision adopted by the Seventh Session of the Preparatory Commission (PC-VII/8, Annex), consultations on the OPCW Media Policy were held on 3 August 1994. Dr. Radoslav Deyanov of Bulgaria was elected Chairman of the consultations.

2. The consultations approved the provisional agenda proposed by the Secretariat, and proceeded to focus on: a paper presented by the Secretariat which included a background paper; a draft OPCW Media Policy; and a draft indicative list of general information which may be routinely provided by the OPCW to the media and the general public. Discussions were also held on the future course of action.

3. Following the general exchange of views the Secretariat was requested to prepare an updated draft which will be considered for future discussions on the issue. It was also felt that Member States should be encouraged to convey any further views they might have in this regard to the Chairman or the Secretariat.

4. The Chairman was requested to report to Working Group A.
