Recalling that Article VIII, subparagraph 34(a) of the Convention provides that the Executive Council shall conclude agreements or arrangements with States and international organisations on behalf of the OPCW, subject to prior approval by the Conference of
the States Parties;

Noting with satisfaction the decision of the Executive Council which: (a) recommended the draft Relationship Agreement as contained in the Annex to that decision; and (b) authorised the Director-General, pending approval by the United Nations General Assembly and the Conference, to sign the agreement for provisional application (EC-MXI/DEC.1, dated 1 September 2000);

 Welcoming the signature of the Agreement concerning the Relationship between the United Nations and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in New York on 17 October 2000 and the outcome of the commencement of provisional application of the agreement (paragraphs 48 to 51 of EC-XXII/DG.12, dated 5 December 2000);

1. Approves the Agreement concerning the Relationship between the United Nations and the OPCW as annexed to the decision of the Executive Council (Annex to EC-MXI/DEC.1, dated 1 September 2000);

2. Requests the Director-General to send written notification to the United Nations that the internal requirements of the OPCW for entry into force of the Agreement have been met; and

3. Further requests the Director-General to inform the Member States of the outcome of the United Nations General Assembly’s consideration of the Agreement and the date of entry into force of the Agreement.
