DECISION
1986 VIENNA CONVENTION ON THE LAW OF TREATIES
BETWEEN STATES AND INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS
OR BETWEEN INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS
The Conference of the States Parties
Recalling that the Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties between States and International Organisations or between International Organisations of 21 March 1986 (as contained in the annex to EC-XV/DEC/CRP.6, dated 12 April 1999, hereinafter the "1986 Vienna Convention") is one of the conventions codifying the law of treaties which has been adopted under the aegis of the United Nations;
Considering that the codification of the practice of treaties concluded between States and international organisations or between international organisations promotes acceptance of and respect for the principles of international law;
Having considered the Note by the Director-General on the 1986 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties between States and International Organisations or between International Organisations (EC-XV/DG.11 and Add.1, dated 9 April and 29 July 1999, respectively);
Noting that the OPCW is entitled to accede to the 1986 Vienna Convention under Article 84, paragraph 1 of that Convention;
Noting further the recommendation of the Executive Council set out in EC-XVI/DEC.1, dated 24 September 1999,
Hereby:
Authorises the Director-General, on behalf of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, to deposit with the Secretary-General of the United Nations as Depositary for the 1986 Vienna Convention the instrument of accession of the OPCW to the 1986 Vienna Convention on the Law of Treaties between States and International Organisations or between International Organisations.
